Happy New Year 2013 !!!

Hello Bloggers!!!!!

I wish you all a very, very Happy New Year.
Here are the things I wish all and each one of us for the new year 2013:

I wish the Lord to keep us in his peace, grace and love ALWAYS.

I ask Him to listen to our desires, but give us what we NEED, not what we WANT. I also ask Him to soothe our little hearts when we do not get our ways.

I wish Him to help us notice the less fortunate in our lives so we can lend a helping hand. Some people were not lucky enough to have their families with them yesterday, a dinner or party to attend or even a warm bed to sleep into. I ask our Heavenly Father to use us as instruments to spread his Love to the ones in need.

I also ask our Father to guide us on the path He has chosen for us; may He, in his absolute generosity, open our eyes to our mission on this earth in 2013, and lead us all to live fulfilling and prosperous lives.

In Jesus' name,  AMEN.

Now, on to the fashion piece! I attended a party in Seattle, which took place in a museum. It was fun, I was surrounded by great people, and I had an awesome time!

The dress I chose was both modest and revealing, if there is such a thing, hehe; it was a rather simple mini (besides the sequins) with long sleeves featuring a V cut on the back (available here; similar here.)  I look really oily in the pics- it is thanks to my friend, who doused me in Vitamin E oil to soothe my dry skin! Hey, it worked :P

My lazy self ended up shopping for shoes yesterday itself, and with my fat feet (sz 11), it was not fun; I ran across half a dozen shoe stores before I found my salvation under the shape of these BP Ginnie pumps/booties/whatever they are. (similar here and here)  I thought they would be super comfy; after all, they are not that high and have a chunky heel.... What! In spite of their cuteness, they were horrendous! I could barely walk by the end of the evening :(

I accessorized very little, and just sported an oversize crystal flower ring (similar here and here) and  studs (similar here and here.)

Finally, Thank you all for being here; I have seen my DafraStar Family grow every day for the past year, and I cannot wait to see more people join our fun little bunch. I appreciate all your support here and on YouTube, and here's to a great year!

Enough babble. Enjoy, and until next time, stay safe and fashionable!

xoxo,
D.

Feeling the Christmas Spirit: Red Roses!

Hello Bloggers!!!!!

Last week, I had the pleasure of attending my company's  Christmas Gala. It was a fancy affair, so I tried my best to be fresh, stylish and proper at the same time. Quite a delicate balance, but I think I did alright :)

I really wanted to be out of the ordinary, while being cheap (you know me!), so I had to be creative; I am not a big fan of tight short dresses, because 1) they tend to ride up and 2) I am somewhat taller average,so they are quick to look distasteful for anything else than a soiree with close friends. Also, I was not sure about a floor length gown, because I was not positive how formal the evening would be; I therefore opted to go the tight bodice - full skirt route.

I fell in LOVVVVE with this creation from ASOS; it was already on sale, and I got it on Cyber Monday, which made it even cheaper! Scoooore!
It is very runway-esque; I love the rose detail on the skirt, its "pouffiness", and the delicate detail on the bodice. They are tasteful additions and make the dress look way more expensive than it really is. (reminds me of this one here ; available here, similar here; this one is different, but pretty.)

I added some plain black tights (not to steal the spotlight from the dress) and a black puff shoulder blazer. The shoes (can you say cute!) were from ROSS, and they were $12! They are made out of a gorgeous gray suede-like material, with the cutest little black bows (somewhat similar ones here and here.) I also threw on a simple black belt featured in this post. My final accessory was a multicolored braided bead necklace, which I believed added just the right amount of "jazz" to an already quite festive combination (similar here, here and here - love this last option. I also followed Coco Chanel's advice and removed my earrings before leaving the house.) I finally grabbed my trusty braided black clutch featured in this post, and I was on the GO!

Enjoy the pics, and until next time, be safe and fashionable!

Xoxo,

D.

Playing Model: Bossy Wigs Photo Shoot in L.A.

Hi Bloggers!!!!!

In my previous post, I mentioned I was briefly in LA just before Thanksgiving week. Well, it was actually for a photo shoot for Bossy Wigs. I won a contest a few weeks ago on FaceBook (Thank you friends who voted for me :D ), and was selected to participate in a shoot in L.A. Yay!

It was a whole lot of fun, but also quite a bit of work: my family and I were actually scheduled to be in Vegas that weekend, so I flew to Vegas, drove to L.A. overnight, did the shoot in the morning, drove back to Vegas in the afternoon, right before I went out to party (outfit in my previous post.) Whew!

The shoot took place in a photo studio; we feasted on snacks and mimosas, and enjoyed good company, conversation and laughter. It was great to be pampered by the makeup artists and to get our hair done- you guys know I love that stuff :)  The owner of the company, Tiffany AKA MissBossy, had already made me a custom wig of a Yaki texture from KinkyCurlyYaki, an awesome company providing extensions mimicking natural hair from Black/ African descent: Afro, textured, low luster, the whole shebang! If that description fits your mane, do yourself a favor and check them out. I have a lot less maintenance to to these days, I'll tell you that much ;)

The wig was awesome- I still wear it. It was a u-part, super flat, with neat stitches and perfect construction. It felt so light and natural, it was ridiculous. Seriously, if you are considering paying for a u-part, please check out Bossy Wigs on FB-her work is truly amazing.

I had brought a gazillion outfit changes, and there was a pretty well furnished wardrobe available as well; however, I ended up wearing only 2, because there were a lot of models, all super gorgeous!

Now to the fashion piece: my two outfits were very different; one was a little "Old Hollywood", with a studded corset and a tight high waisted pencil skirt. I thought it made me feel like a vixen, especially with the bright red lips! :D
The second one was a little more romantic, featuring an off shoulder long sleeve lace blouse, with a red bubble skirt. It was cute yet sophisticated.

Here are a few highlights of the day, from my eyes; I hope you enjoy that little glimpse into the Bossy Experience! The first pictures are the professional shots, and the ones below are the "Behind the scenes".

Enjoy, and until next time, stay safe and fashionable!

Xoxo,
D.

Got my vixen on!

Leather Peplum strikes again: Vegas Flow!

Hi Bloggers!

As I told you last time, I will be featuring my leather peplum romper again in this post, It is just too cute, and so versatile!

The week before Thanksgiving, I happened to spend the weekend in Vegas and L.A. I went out with friends on Saturday and decided to go for a gold and leather combo (I later realized a short dress memo had been shared around Vegas- I was virtually the only one in the club with more than a tight mini :) ).  I was inspired by Style Pantry, in this post where she shows off those gorgeous gold pants-can you say Love???

My pants were a little different- (those look a little more like hers, and these are a nice twist.)  They were more of a black-gold hue, and went really well with my sweetheart neckline peplum (similar here and here.)  I accessorized with my Karma Couture Queen of the Jungle jewelry set (melody Ishani's version here, the original) and a super large, super flat cream and black clutch (an interesting twist here, love this.) Simple black pumps completed my look, available here.

Enough babble- Enjoy the pics, and until next time, stay stylish!

Xoxo,
D.
